Malta

It all started when settlers first came to the Islands 7,000 years ago.

Currently there are 3 inhabited islands - Malta, Gozo and Comino.

Over the years, the islands have been ruled by Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Norman, Knights of St John, French, and British before gaining its independence in 1964.

During World War 2, it was one of the most heavily bombed places. Italy and Germany dropped over 3,000 bombs because of its strategic location in the Mediterranean Sea - sitting between Europe and Africa - base for British planes and a major British harbour. King George awarded all of Malta’s population the George Cross for their bravery.
